The Baku Forum on Sustainable Development has kicked off under the slogan “Strengthening the Regional Partnership on Implementation of Sustainable Development Goals” as part of the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum.

Moderator of the forum TRT World News Presenter Maria Ramos said representatives of more than 30 countries from different regions of the world take part in the event. Ramos said the Baku Forum coincides with another remarkable date, the 73rd anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations.

Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development Ali Ahmadov described the 6th Baku International Humanitarian Forum and the Baku Forum on Sustainable Development as landmark events.

Highlighting the efforts of the National Coordination Council for Sustainable Development towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals in Azerbaijan, the deputy Prime Minister expressed confidence that the Baku Forum will make a great contribution to this work.

UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Ghulam Isaczai said that the Charter of the United Nations and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights are the cornerstones of the UN’s Millennium Development Goals.

Isaczai thanked the Azerbaijani government for the fruitful cooperation with the UN office in the country. He underlined the importance of the Baku Forum in terms of holding discussions that will contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals in 2030.

President of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Inga Ronda emphasized the significance of providing increased support to the private sector along with other areas in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
